When should I use BCC instead of CC?

Use CC when recipients should see who else received the message; use BCC when recipient addresses should remain hidden from one another. For bulk or transactional mail, use an appropriate sending workflow that respects consent, privacy, and provider policies.

Mail

Understand recipient visibility

Addresses in To and CC are visible to the recipients, which can be useful when a group is collaborating openly. BCC hides those addresses from other recipients, but the sender and mail service may still retain delivery records.

Do not use BCC to bypass consent or conceal the nature of a mailing. Recipients should understand why they received the message and have any required way to manage preferences or unsubscribe.

Choose the right sending pattern

For a small group that needs to reply-all or coordinate, use visible recipients when everyone is entitled to see the list. For a private group announcement, BCC can reduce unnecessary exposure, but verify the recipient list carefully before sending.

For large lists, prefer a mailing system designed for that purpose rather than placing many addresses in one message. Follow applicable privacy rules, limit access to recipient data, and send a test to check formatting and disclosure before a campaign.
