Understand the two removal steps
When you remove a message from the inbox or another regular folder, it is moved to the Trash folder rather than erased at once. You can open Trash and move a message back if it was deleted by mistake. This behavior gives the normal delete action a recovery path.
The action changes once a message is in Trash: removing it there permanently deletes it. Treat that second step as irreversible, and review the sender, subject, and contents before using it. If you only want to clear the inbox without losing the message, move it to another folder or archive it when that option is available.
Check the folder before cleanup
If a message seems to have disappeared, check Trash and any other folder it may have been moved to, such as Spam or Archive. Search can help locate messages across folders; select the relevant folder when you need to narrow results. A move and a permanent deletion have different recovery outcomes.
For bulk cleanup, review the selected folder and the scope of the action before confirming. Keep important receipts, account notices, and records you may need later. Once a message has been permanently removed from Trash, do not assume the mailbox can restore it; retain a separate copy when the information matters.
