Can an email alias send messages from its own address?

An alias routes incoming messages to a mailbox; it does not automatically create a separate mailbox or sending identity. Check the account's sending options before using it as a From address.

Separate incoming routing from outgoing identity

An alias is useful when a public address should deliver mail to an existing mailbox without creating another place to read messages. The destination mailbox receives the message, but that routing alone does not prove that the mailbox is authorized to send as the alias.

Before choosing an alias for a team or role, decide how replies should appear and who can send under that name. If each person replies from a different personal address, recipients may see an inconsistent identity even though the original message reached the shared mailbox.

Test the visible From address

Check the product's mailbox or sending configuration for an explicit way to send as the alias. If no such option is available, use the primary mailbox address as the sender or create the appropriate sending identity through the supported setup. Do not assume forwarding changes the From field.

Send a test to an external address and inspect the visible From and reply behavior. Confirm that the reply reaches the intended mailbox and that recipients see the approved identity. If the sender differs from the alias, explain that to users before publishing the address.
