What should I provide when resuming a workflow that is waiting for approval?

Provide the decision or fields requested by the waiting step and confirm that the run is still waiting. Resume data should be explicit, complete, and appropriate for the workflow's next actions.

Workflows

Review what the workflow is waiting for

Open the run details and identify the human step, its prompt, and any fields the next step expects. A waiting run has paused for input; it has not necessarily failed. Read the context before responding so that an approval, selection, or other value is not mistaken for a different decision.

If the prompt is unclear or the requested information is missing, do not guess. Ask the workflow owner to clarify the expected choice and any conditions that apply. A response should match the defined inputs, especially when later steps use the value to send a message, update a record, or start another action.

Resume and verify the next step

Submit only the decision and values that the workflow requested. Check identifiers, URLs, and other structured fields for accuracy, and avoid placing unrelated private information into the response. If the decision is approval, make sure the person responding has the authority expected by the process.

After resuming, inspect the run to confirm it left the waiting state and the next step received the intended values. If it fails, use the new error and run history to diagnose that step rather than resubmitting different answers blindly. Keep the original run identifier when discussing the issue.
