How do I prepare a custom domain for a hosted site?

Add the domain to the hosting configuration, then create the DNS records requested for that exact host name. Wait for DNS to resolve to the intended destination and complete any ownership or certificate checks shown by the product before directing visitors there.

Hosting

Connect the hostname deliberately

Decide whether the site should use the root domain, a subdomain, or both, and configure each name explicitly. A record for www does not automatically configure the apex, and changing one hostname does not necessarily redirect the other.

At your DNS provider, enter the record name and target exactly as displayed in the hosting instructions. Remove or update conflicting records only after checking which services currently depend on them.

Verify routing and secure delivery

Use the hosting status view to confirm that the custom hostname is recognized and its certificate setup is complete. DNS resolution alone does not prove that the hosting platform has attached the name to the right site.

Test both HTTP-to-HTTPS behavior and the intended canonical hostname, then check redirects and page assets. Keep the provider-assigned address available during setup so you can compare results and recover if a DNS change was entered incorrectly.
