Compare sources with context
Check whether a file is generated, archived, localized, or marked as a draft; those details may explain the difference. Record the exact fields or statements in conflict and where each appears.
Prefer the documented source hierarchy, such as current configuration over an example or a maintained schema over a copied report. File order or formatting alone does not prove which source is authoritative.
Resolve and preserve the decision
If the conflict is consequential and no precedence rule exists, ask a focused question with the alternatives and likely impact. Work that does not depend on the answer can continue while the decision is pending.
Once resolved, update the canonical source and relevant dependent copies. Note what was chosen and why so later work does not reintroduce the outdated value.
