# When should I use web search and when should I fetch a page?
Use web search to discover relevant pages and compare sources. Use fetch when you already have a page URL and need its readable content, a screenshot, or page diagnostics. Search helps find where to look; fetch examines a specific destination.

## Start with search for discovery
Search is useful when you need current pages about a subject, want to compare several publishers, or do not know which source contains the answer. You can refine results by language, region, count, or recency where those options are available. Treat search results as pointers to sources rather than as complete evidence for a decision.
After choosing a relevant result, open its page with fetch to inspect the page content. This helps verify whether the result still matches your question, check the publisher's explanation, and read context that was not present in the search summary. If the result is outdated, blocked, or unrelated on the page itself, continue with another source.
## Fetch a known page for detail
Fetch accepts a URL and returns readable page content; it can also capture a screenshot and, when requested, console errors or slow network requests. Use these options to examine a page you built, verify a source visually, or diagnose a rendering problem. A screenshot is useful evidence about appearance but does not prove every interaction works.
For important claims, compare the fetched page with other reliable sources and check the publication or update date. A successful fetch only means the page was retrieved; it does not certify that the content is accurate, complete, or still authoritative. Keep the original source URL with any conclusion so a reader can verify it. [← Back to Tools FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/tools)
