# How can I narrow a web search to more useful results?
A search works better when the query and the search scope match the question. A few deliberate constraints can reduce irrelevant results without hiding useful sources.

## Make the query specific
Include the product, version, organization, or date that distinguishes your question from a broad topic. If you are investigating a change, search for the exact feature name and the timeframe in which it occurred. Add terms that signal the kind of source you need, such as documentation, a release note, or a policy page.
Avoid loading the query with unrelated keywords. If the results are too broad, add one meaningful constraint at a time and inspect whether the result set improves. If the search is too narrow, remove a constraint rather than repeating the same query with minor wording changes.
## Use scope filters intentionally
Set a language or region when the answer depends on local availability, rules, or terminology. Use a recency window for fast-changing subjects and a result limit when you need a concise shortlist. A restrictive date range can hide older reference material, so use it only when freshness is important to the question.
Review titles and sources before relying on a result. A filter changes what the search returns; it does not validate the accuracy of each page. Open the underlying source, check its publication context, and compare important claims against authoritative material before using them in a decision or a customer-facing answer.
