# Can the file tools organize files into folders?
Local file tools can do more than read a document. They can help organize a working set on the device running the session, while keeping file operations tied to that device.

## Plan the folder change
Choose a clear destination before moving files and check whether a folder with that name already exists. Use names that describe the project or stage of work rather than temporary labels that will be hard to interpret later. If you are reorganizing many files, start with a small representative group and confirm the resulting paths.
A move changes where a file is stored; it does not make the file available on other devices. Use the device and session that can access the original files, and avoid assuming that a folder visible there will appear in another session automatically.
## Review before moving or removing
Ask for a folder listing when you need to check the current structure. Before a batch move, compare the source and destination names and make sure the selected files belong together. When removing a folder, confirm whether it contains anything you still need; a path that looks temporary may hold an important deliverable.
If the file tools operate in a permission mode that requests approval, read the proposed paths and operation before confirming. Keep a simple folder convention for repeated work, and check the final listing after the change. This makes local organization easier to understand without broadening access beyond the device already in use. [← Back to Tools FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/tools)
