# Can the conversion tool extract audio from a video?
Yes. The conversion tool can convert a supported video file into an audio format such as MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, OGG, FLAC, or OPUS. It saves the converted result in the workspace and reports its output path.

## Choose a supported source and target
The converter reads the source format from the file name and checks which targets are available for that source. Video inputs include formats such as MP4, WebM, MOV, AVI, and MKV; audio outputs include several common compressed and uncompressed formats. The exact available targets depend on the source type.
Provide a workspace file path or a URL and select the audio target format. If the source name has no recognizable extension, the tool may not know what it is; if the requested conversion is unavailable, it returns the possible targets. Keep the original file until you have reviewed the converted audio.
## Review the generated audio
A successful conversion creates a new file rather than changing the source. Use the returned output path to locate and listen to it, and check that the duration and sound are what you expected. Conversion can succeed while the source contains silence, unsupported audio tracks, or other content that affects the result.
If the audio is missing or incorrect, confirm that you selected the intended video and target format, then review the conversion error or try another supported target. Do not rename an unsupported format to make it appear compatible; the extension helps the tool identify the source but does not change the file's underlying encoding.
