# Why can I forward mail to only a limited number of addresses?
A mailbox can forward copies of its messages to at most five addresses. IaGenify applies this limit because each forwarding destination causes mail to be sent on your behalf; an unlimited list could turn forwarding into an open relay.

## Keep forwarding scoped
Forwarding sends a copy of each message to the configured destinations. Use only addresses that need the mail, and remove destinations that are no longer responsible for handling it. Keeping the list small reduces unnecessary copies and limits where message content is delivered.
The five-address cap applies to the configured forwarding list. It is not a limit on how many people can send mail to the mailbox, nor does it determine the size of the mailbox. If a team needs broader distribution, consider a mailing list or shared service designed for that purpose, with its own membership and access controls.
## Review privacy and delivery behavior
Anyone who receives a forwarded copy can read the message and its attachments. Before adding a destination, confirm that it is spelled correctly, controlled by the intended recipient, and permitted to receive the mailbox's content. This matters especially for invoices, account notifications, and personal information.
If forwarding is no longer required, clear the destination list to stop sending copies. Test configuration changes with a non-sensitive message and verify receipt at the intended address. Forwarding is a delivery rule; it does not move the original message out of the mailbox or replace the mailbox's own retention and folder settings.
