# What happens when I remove a hosted site?
Removing a hosted site removes its deployment, assigned address, DNS record, and stored site files. Treat the action as a full cleanup of that host's resources, not as a pause or temporary disconnect. Save any files or configuration you may need before removing it.

## Understand the scope before removal
The host groups the live deployment and the resources that make its address resolve. Removing it therefore affects both what visitors see and how the address is routed. If you only want to take the site offline briefly, use an available pause or deployment control if the product provides one instead of deleting the host.
Before removal, copy site files and note the domain, DNS settings, build source, and environment configuration needed for a later recreation. Confirm you selected the intended host, especially if multiple projects use similar names. Any external DNS configuration should be reviewed as well so it does not point visitors at a removed destination.
## Plan recovery and verify the result
If the site must return, create a new host or deployment from the saved source and reapply the required domain and DNS configuration. The previous address may not be retained. Follow the current product flow and verify the new deployment directly before directing visitors to it.
After removal, check the hosting list and DNS status to confirm the intended resources are gone. If the action failed partway or the address still resolves unexpectedly, inspect the host's status and DNS records before retrying. Keep a dated backup of the site source and configuration for future recovery. [← Back to Hosting FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/hosting)
