# Can I host a server that needs to run continuously?
The hosting target determines whether a project can run there. Static files and request-driven edge code fit the supported deployment types, while an always-on server process needs a different runtime model.

## Identify what your application needs at runtime
A static deployment serves files produced by your build, such as HTML, stylesheets, scripts, and assets. It works for sites that can operate from those files without a persistent application server. An edge deployment runs a compatible module in response to requests, but it is not the same as keeping a general-purpose Node.js process alive between requests.
Before choosing hosting, check whether your framework can produce static output or whether its server code depends on long-running state, background work, or Node-specific APIs. A project that expects a persistent process may build successfully and still fail to run in a static or edge environment. Confirm the runtime requirements, not just the framework name.
## Choose a compatible architecture
If your project is static, build it locally and deploy the resulting files. If it uses request-driven logic, check that the code fits the supported edge runtime and its APIs. Keep long-running jobs or services that need a continuously active process on a platform designed for that workload rather than treating a static deployment as a server.
Test the deployed application on the actual hosting target, including the routes and operations that depend on server behavior. If the required runtime is not supported, adapt the application to a compatible model or select hosting that explicitly runs persistent servers. This avoids mistaking a successful upload for a working production service. [← Back to Hosting FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/hosting)
