# Why do my root domain and www address behave differently?
The root name and www hostname are distinct. Each may need its own DNS record and project association, plus an intentional redirect if you want one canonical address.

## Check both names separately
Test the root address and the www address, then review each hostname in DNS and in the hosting project's domain list. A record or association for one name does not prove that the other is configured. Differences may appear as a timeout, an unrelated destination, or a certificate warning.
Confirm that both names belong to a domain you control and that DNS changes were made at the authoritative provider. If another service manages DNS, a change in the wrong account may not affect public resolution. Compare each configured target with the project's instructions.
## Choose a canonical address deliberately
Decide which hostname should appear in shared links and search results. Configure the other to redirect to it, then test both HTTP and HTTPS entry points. Do not assume that attaching both names automatically redirects visitors.
After changing DNS or project associations, allow records to update. Test from another network if results seem inconsistent. Keep notes on which hostname is attached and which redirects so you can identify where to investigate if one stops resolving. [← Back to Domains FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/domains)
