# How do TXT records verify domain ownership?
A verification service gives you a specific TXT value to publish in the domain's DNS zone. The service checks for that value to confirm control of the zone; add it exactly as provided and leave it in place for as long as the service requires.

## Publish the exact verification value
Copy the full record name and value from the service requesting verification. DNS interfaces differ in whether the name field expects the full domain or only a relative label, so follow the interface's guidance and avoid adding the domain twice.
If a TXT record already exists at the same name, many DNS providers allow multiple values, but confirm the supported format before editing it. Do not replace an existing email-authentication or other verification value without understanding its purpose.
## Check visibility before retrying verification
Save the record and query the authoritative DNS answer to confirm the expected text is present. Recursive caches may take time to refresh; the verification service may not observe a new record immediately.
After the check succeeds, retain or remove the record according to the requesting service's instructions. Keep a note of which service uses each verification record so future cleanup does not break ownership checks or integrations. [← Back to Domains FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/domains)
