# How do I transfer a domain without interrupting the website or email?
A domain transfer changes the registrar relationship, while DNS hosting and the actual website or mail services may be separate. Map those dependencies before starting, keep the current DNS zone active, and avoid changing nameservers as part of the registrar transfer unless you intend to move DNS too.

## Prepare the current setup
Record the nameservers, DNS records, renewal date, and administrative contact for the domain. Confirm that the registrant email can receive approval messages and that the domain is eligible for transfer under the current registrar's rules.
If DNS will also move, copy every required record first, including less visible mail verification, service discovery, and subdomain records. Compare the new zone with the live one and allow time for the new records to be available before switching nameservers.
## Transfer and verify in stages
Unlock the domain and obtain its transfer authorization through the current registrar, then initiate the transfer with the new registrar. Follow each provider's confirmation process and keep the old account accessible until completion is confirmed.
Afterward, verify website and mail resolution from more than one network and check certificate, redirects, and renewal settings. A registrar transfer alone should not require website downtime when the existing DNS service remains unchanged. [← Back to Domains FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/domains)
