# Can a DNS record redirect visitors to another web page?
A DNS record directs a hostname to a network destination; it does not send a browser to a particular URL path. Use an HTTP redirect configured by a web host or edge service when visitors should land on another page or hostname.

## Understand what DNS routes
DNS answers questions such as which server or service is associated with a hostname. Records such as A, AAAA, and CNAME help a client find a destination, but they do not carry instructions like “open `/pricing`” or change the address shown in the browser.
This distinction matters when moving a site or choosing a canonical address. Pointing `www.example.com` at the same server as `example.com` may make both resolve, but visitors may still see either hostname and its own URL. DNS can make a service reachable; the service must decide what page or address to return.
## Configure and test an HTTP redirect
Set up the redirect at a web server, hosting project, or edge service that can respond to the browser's HTTP request. Choose the source hostname and destination URL carefully, including whether paths and query parameters should be preserved. If the domain is managed through a hosting project, check whether its redirect feature supports the rule you need.
After changing DNS or redirect rules, test both the source and destination in a browser and check the final URL. Avoid creating opposing redirects that form a loop, and confirm that the destination has a valid certificate when it uses HTTPS. Keep DNS and redirect changes documented separately so a later administrator can tell which layer controls the behavior. [← Back to Domains FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/domains)
