# What should I include when asking an agent to investigate a production issue?
Describe the observed symptom, expected behavior, scope, and time it began. Provide sanitized evidence and state which changes or actions are off limits.

## Give the agent a usable incident brief
Include the affected service or workflow, what you expected to happen, what happened instead, and whether the problem affects one user or many. Add the approximate start time and relevant recent changes. These details help distinguish a new regression from a long-standing behavior without requiring the agent to guess at the incident's scope.
Share only evidence needed to diagnose the issue, such as a redacted error message or a small relevant log excerpt. Remove passwords, access tokens, private customer values, and unrelated records. If the agent may inspect code or settings, specify the repository or project area that is relevant.
## Set boundaries and request a useful report
Say whether the agent should investigate only, suggest a fix, or prepare a change for review. Name any actions it must not take, such as deploying, deleting data, or contacting customers. This keeps diagnosis separate from operations that could affect users.
Ask for findings grouped into confirmed facts, likely causes, and open questions. Request the evidence for each conclusion and a short list of safe next checks. Before acting on a suggested fix, review its assumptions and test it in an appropriate environment. [← Back to Agent FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/agent)
