# What should I do when an agent finds conflicting instructions?
Ask the agent to identify the conflict and show which instructions or sources disagree. Clarify the intended priority for the task, then have it continue with that decision recorded rather than silently blending incompatible requirements.

## Make the conflict concrete
Instructions may disagree about scope, format, language, or what must remain unchanged. Ask for the exact statements and affected files or outcomes so you can resolve the decision rather than debate vague summaries.
Distinguish a true conflict from requirements that apply to different parts of the work. Sometimes both can be satisfied by scoping one rule to a particular page, audience, or stage.
## Record the resolution and continue
State which requirement governs and whether any exception is allowed. If you have not decided, ask the agent to pause only the dependent action while it continues independent work that cannot violate either instruction.
After the change, review the result against the resolved requirement and ensure the explanation is preserved for future edits. Do not treat a plausible compromise as approval when the conflict affects an irreversible or externally visible action. [← Back to Agent FAQs](https://help.iagenify.com/faqs/agent)
